TRUE BMX Pro Shop is owned by Mike Dixon, a native of South Carolina. He grew up in Blythewood, SC, and began racing BMX at the age of 15. In 1982 he competed in his first Grand National, the NPSA Grand Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida, placing 7th nationally. His passion for BMX began to grow as he continued racing throughout high school. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and had to give up racing until 1998 when was mobilized to Fort Gordon, GA, bought a Powerlite P-24 and began racing again. Throughout the next several years, the Army moved him around a lot, but he always took his bike with him and looked for tracks to ride on in every city he visited. In 2009, he raced the NBL Grand Nationals in Louisville, KY, and was 8th national that year. He retired from the Army in 2011 after 28 years of service, but never retired from his love of BMX. His dream was to open a bike shop that specialized in BMX and after hearing of the plans to build a supercross track in Rock Hill, he knew that was where he wanted to be. The location at Cherry Road became available, a mere 1.5 miles from the Novant Health Supercross Track, so in April 2016, he opened the doors of TRUE BMX Pro Shop. Mike’s goal is to help the sport continue to grow by sharing his knowledge of the sport and by inspiring young riders. Throughout his years spent racing, his career in the Army, and his civilian life afterwards, he has been inspired by the quote, “Losing is not an option”.
